Garden Tour End of May 2017 // Lisa Rusczyk

The garden is staring to be very green.   I enjoy watching the garden grow.  I have bought many plants this year for $1 at Lowes.  A few flowers are from a garden in town.  Enjoy and I hope you get some ideas for your own garden.  This is not a paid post.

Lettuce for salads.

This was a $1 plant I got yesterday.  Dahlias are coming! I can't wait to see what color and shape they turn out to be.

Different types of lettuces to change it up.

I got these for $.50 each at Lowes on sale.  I planted 36 of the.  I can't wait to see what this looks like next year.  Right now they are pretty stemmy.

I got this vinca from the woods near our house.  I did get poison ivy.  But after a couple years this really filled in.  I like it is trapped between the sidewalk and the latices.  This filled in really well.

This was my mothers day flowers.  The only flowers I paid full price for.  They keep blooming and I love to see them when I come in the house.

Side view.  That is a little blue spruce tree that I am sure one day will take out that entire garden.  But that should be years down the road.  Right now there is a lilac, some hibiscus coming up, and some pink flowers (forget the name).  Also you see one of the lace leaf maples.

The vegetable garden.  I am trying again.  Every year the garden has been eaten by something.  So this year there is a net.  The potatoes and onions are doing great.  The tomatoes are starting to get bigger.  Also peas and cucumbers are starting to grow.

Sunflowers and a few trees I found in the garden and replanted. I found 2 raspberry plants for a dollar each but I am not sure what to do with them.  They are coming back great.

This lace leaf maple is doing well.  Hopefully it will provide more shade for that hydrangea so it grows bigger.  Right now it is getting too much sun.

Someone in town gave me some black eyed susans and some day lilies.  I planted them by the mail box.

The apples on the apple tree are starting to form.

I made this garden specifically so I can see is from the windows.  I can not see many of the other gardens from my window.  I made this garden very thin so I could pack it with plants.  There are many things in there.  I got the birdbath as a birthday present this year.  I made the garden from the bird bath to the tree.

The new path I just started.  Each paver as $.88  from lowes.

Another picture of the lace leaf maple tree.  I added some white flowers below that you can see through the tree.

Starting a Jared Box Program // Lisa Rusczyk

Six months ago my 4 year old daughter needed to get a 4 hours surgery at Geisnger Danville.  She needed to stay overnight after the surgery.  After a long day and a successful surgery it was time to stay the night.  When we got to out clean stark hospital room, there was a box waiting for us.  The box was called a Jared box and it was filled with toys and activities.

The first thing my daughter said when she woke up was "Hello Kitty" because she saw there was one in the  box.  We played with the items in the box during our stay. We knew we were not alone that day.  We knew other families have been there too and people outside of our own family were thinking of us.

Starting a Jared Box Program with Your Organization

A few months later I decided to start a Jared Box project at our church.  The first thing I did was buy 12 boxes for toys and one large box for donations.  I decided that was going to be our goal and wanted to contribute by buying the boxes.

Next I added the information to our church newsletter.  I told them about the project, our goal, and what to bring.

Jared Boxes
For the month of April, we will be collecting toys to place in shoe boxes to give to kids staying at children's  Hospitals. Children's Church will place them in boxes, and they will be delivered to Geisinger Children's Hospital. Suggested Items: Silly putty, play dough, paints, books, art supplies, bubbles, card games, puzzles, plastic animal figurines, cars, dress up toys, stuffed animals, stickers, and nerf balls.

I also added similar info on social media.

Remember to bring in your Jared box materials forThe Jared Box Project! We are collecting them for the month of April. The box is filling up already! Thank you for your donations.

Well guess what.  The box filled up!!!

The next thing you could do is have a box filling party.  I actually did it myself after sorting all the toys.  The boxes were filled.  All 12!! Our prayers were answered.  I put all the boxes in a line and just started filling them.

The next step was to get the labels on the boxes and decorate them.  The kids did this during a bible study night while they had a sitter.  They did a great job.  Sorry I don't have a picture for that.

The very last step is to deliver them to the hospital.  I still need to do this step but it is one of the easiest.

Find out more about the project here:  Jared Box Project  I wrote this blog post so you can get some ideas to start your own Jared Box project.  Please let me know if I can help in any way by emailing me at lbrennec@gmail.com .

Thank you to The Common Place Church for your help!

>TOURIST Book Series // Lisa Rusczyk

Where have I been?  Working on the >TOURIST book series.  This is a series of travel books "50 Travel Tips from a Local".  Currently there are 20 books and there is currently 30 on order from writers.

I have been working with writers all over the world.  I love to vacation.  On my honeymoon we went to many places.  While in Egypt the locals were only trying to sell me things so I became a little stand off ish of locals.  Then we went to Malta.  An older man tried to give me travel tips of how I should go to Mdina and how beautiful it was there.  I thought he was selling me something.  But he was not!  He was giving me wonderful travel advice.

I have been loving working with the writers.  They have such an individual perspective of places that you can't find in other travel books.  While I don't have much time to talk to locals on a trip, I love reading their thoughts in these books.

Also, thanks for a friend tho helped me make the first Greater Than a TOURIST shirt.

So these books are a great way to talk to a local before or while traveling to your destination.

Are you excited about planning your next trip?
Do you want to try something new while traveling?
Would you like some guidance from a local?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this book is just for you.

Greater Than a Tourist // 50 Travel Tips from a Local

You can find all the books on amazon in Kindle and Paperback format.

Check out the map below to see the current cities.
